This project provides critical standby power supply for the core production bases of SMIC. Adopting Yuchai self-developed YC16VC series high-power diesel generator sets, each unit features a prime power of 2200kW and standby power of 2420kW, with a total combined power of the three units reaching 6600kW. The units can start up instantly in case of grid anomalies, delivering uninterrupted power support for wafer fabrication lines, clean rooms and key process equipment, and effectively avoiding massive economic losses caused by power outages in wafer production.
As a benchmark of domestic high-end power equipment, the 16VC generator unit is equipped with a high-strength engine block, four-bolt main bearing and electronically controlled unit pump technology. It boasts outstanding advantages including compact structure, fast transient response, low vibration and noise, and fuel efficiency. Its emission and reliability indicators have reached internationally advanced levels, fully meeting the stringent requirements of zero downtime, high stability and fast switching for the power system in semiconductor manufacturing.
2022 marked a crucial period for SMIC to accelerate capacity expansion with high capital expenditure. The smooth delivery and commissioning of this batch of units have laid a solid foundation of power infrastructure for the capacity ramp-up of its production campuses in Shanghai and other locations, and facilitated the independent controllability upgrading of China's integrated circuit manufacturing industrial chain.
