The Flaming Mountains stand among the hottest spots, where even machinery may suffer from "heatstroke". Serving as a well‑known high‑temperature test site, Turpan hosts Yuchai's annual high‑temperature calibration tests, where the brand keeps challenging seemingly impossible technical barriers.
In early August, Yuchai's engineering team returned to Turpan for a 20‑plus‑day high‑temperature calibration campaign. A total of 30 fitted vehicles were deployed for testing, covering tractors, cargo trucks and passenger buses. Fourteen engine models were involved, including YCY30, YCS04, YCS05, YCS07, YCK09L, YCK11, YCK12LN, YCK15N, YCK16N and YCK16LN.
The tests focused on power‑system validation, with key evaluation indicators covering thermal balance, power output, fuel economy, heat‑dissipation durability and idle‑speed stability. Multiple real‑world working conditions were simulated, including outdoor sun‑soaking static tests, full‑load hill climbing, high‑speed cycles and idling creeping, alongside full‑air‑conditioner operation to replicate heavy‑duty and traffic‑congestion scenarios. Critical parameters such as water temperature, oil temperature and torque were continuously collected. Targeting the local high‑temperature and dust‑laden environment, the project further verified the stability and durability of air intake and combustion systems under combined heat‑and‑dust conditions, generating real‑world data for product calibration optimization and whole‑vehicle matching.
This extreme heat test challenges not only machinery but also personnel. At noon, temperature inside the engine bay climbs above 60°C, releasing surging heat once the cover is opened. To capture valid data within the peak‑heat window, Yuchai calibration engineers adjusted their work schedule and conducted extreme‑condition tests during the hottest hours of the day. Inside sweltering cabs, technicians closely monitored data fluctuations. Beside scalding engine bays, they repeatedly inspected equipment, running cyclic tests and conducting round‑by‑round comparative analysis. Layers of salt stains were left on work uniforms as sweat evaporated. Faced with high‑intensity assignments, the team followed strict test protocols, identifying even minor anomalies, tracing deviations and iterating calibrations. Potential risks are resolved at the test site to deliver reliable products to end customers.
Repeated field missions in extreme environments and rigorous validation lay a solid foundation for continuous product upgrading. Going forward, Yuchai will maintain high‑standard product testing and verification.
