China Telecom Taiyuan Data Center: Delivery of 4×1800kW Generators (16VC) in November 2020

Leave a message

As a key digital infrastructure project in Shanxi Province, China Telecom Taiyuan Data Center serves as a critical node in China Telecom's computing power network across North China. It provides core support for regional government informatization, enterprise digital transformation, and the expansion of the big data industry. Adhering to the "green, efficient, and reliable" construction philosophy, the project focuses on core capabilities such as computing power assurance, data storage, and network interconnection, aiming to build a high-standard, intelligent data service hub that drives the high-quality development of Shanxi's digital economy. The delivery of these 4 units of 1800kW generators (16VC) marks a key milestone in the project's construction.

The 4 units of 1800kW generators (16VC) delivered this time form the backbone of the data center's power supply system. Featuring an industry-proven 16-cylinder V-type configuration (16VC), these generators offer notable advantages, including high power density, efficient operation, strong stability, and low energy consumption. Each unit has a rated output of 1800kW, which can reliably meet the continuous power demands of the data center's core loads-such as high-density servers, network switching equipment, and storage arrays. Deployed in a redundant and collaborative configuration, the 4 units form a highly reliable power supply structure, effectively mitigating single-point failure risks and ensuring an uninterrupted "power safety net" for the data center's 24/7 core operations.

In November 2020, following a rigorous process of pre-delivery inspections, on-site commissioning, and system integration testing, the 4 units of 1800kW generators (16VC) were successfully delivered and put into formal trial operation. During the delivery process, the construction team, technical staff, and equipment supplier collaborated closely, strictly adhering to data center infrastructure construction standards. They carefully calibrated the equipment's installation accuracy and commissioning parameters, ensuring all performance indicators of each unit fully met design requirements and industry norms-delivering quality and efficiency that were recognized by all relevant parties.

The successful delivery of this batch of generators marks a significant phased achievement in the development of China Telecom Taiyuan Data Center's power system, laying a solid foundation for the project's subsequent overall completion and official commissioning. After commissioning, the generators not only enhance the reliability and stability of the data center's power supply but also reduce operational costs through optimized energy consumption design, supporting the data center's green and low-carbon operation objectives. Furthermore, this delivery strengthens the data center's infrastructure capacity, boosts its computing power support in North China, and provides a solid power foundation for future government and enterprise digital service collaborations.

Going forward, China Telecom will implement rigorous operation and maintenance (O&M) protocols for these 1800kW generators (16VC), establishing regular inspection and preventive maintenance mechanisms to promptly identify and address potential operational hazards, ensuring the generators operate stably and efficiently over the long term. Taking the delivery of these generators as an opportunity, the company will accelerate the overall construction of Taiyuan Data Center, striving to develop it into a high-quality data service hub that radiates across North China and serves Shanxi Province, thereby boosting the development of the regional digital economy.
